Remote stores performing like local, powered by Microsoft RDS
Remote branches that barely functioned now respond as if sitting right next to the central server.
The Challenge
The business ran on a classic client-server architecture, where the application at the remote stores talked directly to the central server over a WAN link. The chatty client-server protocol is highly sensitive to network latency, so the remote sites froze, slowed to a crawl, or effectively stopped working. Daily operations at the branches were chaotic and unreliable.
The Solution
We deployed Microsoft Terminal Services (RDS) and published the application as a RemoteApp. The application now runs locally, right next to the database on the central server, while store users receive only screen, keyboard and mouse over the RDP protocol. Because RDP is lightweight and latency-tolerant, the heavy application-to-database traffic stays entirely inside the server's local network.
The Result
The remote stores now behave as if physically next to the server, with smooth, immediate responsiveness. No local installation or per-workstation maintenance of the application is required, and all data stays centralized and secure in a single location. The before-and-after was a night-and-day difference for daily operations.
